BEACH BUMS HOST FITNESS NIGHT MAY 22; BRITTANY AND BERNIE FROM NBC’S "THE BIGGEST LOSER-COUPLES" TO VISIT

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums are proud to announce Fitness Night at Wuerfel Park on May 22. Celebrity fitness experts Brittany Aberle and Bernie Salazar from NBC’s hit TV show, “The Biggest Loser-Couples” will be in attendance.

Brittany and Bernie will sign autographs and greet fans from 5:45-6:30p.m., before heading onto the Wuerfel Park Astroturf GamePro XPE sports turf to publicly address fans. The pair will promote fitness while sharing their stories with the fans and then throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the 7:05 p.m. game with the Midwest Sliders. The event will be sponsored by several local businesses including Digestive Health Associates and Anytime Fitness.

Brittany, a native of San Jacinto, Calif., was on the show for 12 weeks and lost over 50 pounds. Bernie, who hails from Chicago, Ill., dropped 88 pounds in a matter of 10 weeks while on the show. After being eliminated, Bernie continued to lose weight and won the off campus Biggest Loser prize of $100,000. His total weight loss was 130 pounds. Brittany and Bernie were teammates on the show.

According to NBC’s website, "The Biggest Loser" is the first reality series in which everybody "loses." "The Biggest Loser" challenges and encourages overweight participants to undergo physical makeovers, without any kind of surgery, in a safe and recommended manner through comprehensive diet and exercise as they compete for a grand prize of $250,000.

In addition to the appearance of Brittany and Bernie, the Beach Bums will raffle off a membership to Anytime Fitness in Traverse City. Other activities are planned as the event continues to grow. Check the Beach Bums website as the event approaches.

The Beach Bums open the Frontier League season on May 21 with a 7:05 p.m. game at Wuerfel Park against the Midwest Sliders. Individual game tickets are now available by phone, (231) 943-0100, in person at the box office, or online. Wuerfel Park hosts the Frontier League All-Star festivities on July 15-16.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums added three players to its spring training roster at today’s Frontier League draft. The draft was held in conjunction with the league’s tryout camp, conducted yesterday and today at Southern Illinois’ Rent One Park.

With the sixth overall pick, a slot obtained from Chillicothe as part of last season’s trade involving Lance Koenig and J.T. Thomas, the Beach Bums selected RHP Peter McEneaney. A native of New York, New York, McEneaney pitched collegiately at the University of Rochester, an NCAA Division III school, for four years. This season he was the ace of the staff, boasting a 6-1 record to go with a 1.87 ERA in 10 appearances, nine of which were starts. McEneaney pitched led the staff with 57.2 innings and posted 53 strikeouts. The Yellowjackets are currently 28-11.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums have announced the signing of Western Michigan University product Kyle Maunus.

Maunus is an accomplished hitter that will fill our hole at first-base and will give us a much needed right-handed bat in the lineup,” said Jason Wuerfel, the Beach Bums' Director of Baseball operations. “He also has experience in the outfield and third base, so he will give us depth at those positions as well.”

TRAVERSE CITY MI… The Traverse City Beach Bums will be hosting several high school doubleheaders and tournaments at Wuerfel Park in 2008. Admission for doubleheaders will be $2 and tournaments will be $5 for an all-day pass. The remaining games follow (results of the games played to to date are on page two):.

May 15th - Elk Rapids vs. Mancelona - doubleheader at 4 p.m.

May 17th - Glen Lake Invitational - times TBD Tournament teams will include Glen Lake, Pine River, Clare, and Rogers City.

Fans are reminded outside food and beverages are not allowed in Wuerfel Park. Bags will be checked at the entrance.
