
7/10/2010 - The Traverse City Beach Bums are proud to announce that All-Star C.J. Zielger has been invited to participate in the Dr Pepper Homerun Derby at Rent One Park on Tuesday, July 13. C.J. will be one of eight participants with a chance to win $1,000 that evening. Ziegler has 7 homeruns on the season to date, and is batting .265 with a .457 slugging percentage. Ziegler is an injury replacement for Gateway All-Star Brandon Peters.
July 08, 2010 FRONTIER LEAGUE RELEASEThe participants in the 2010 Frontier League Home Run Derby, presented by Dr Pepper, have been selected. Sluggers Tim Grogan and Stephen Shults from the Florence Freedom, Charlie Lisk and Brandon Peters from the Gateway Grizzlies, Matt Maloney from the Kalamazoo Kings, and Stephen Head, Brad Miller, and Jereme Milons from the host Southern Illinois Miners will be competing. The Home Run Derby will begin at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 13 at Rent One Park and will be followed by the Celebrity Softball Game.
Both Lisk and Miller participated in the 2009 Home Run Derby, with Lisk losing to Washington’s Grant Psomas in a sudden-death tie-breaker after the final round.
Each hitter will be paired with a fan whose name was randomly drawn in the Dr Pepper Home Run Derby Contests. Fans have been able to register at 17th Street, Bennies, Quatros, SI Bowl and T-Birds in the Marion area. The winning player and the fan with whom he is paired will both win $1,000.
For the first round of the derby, each of the eight batters will receive ten outs in which to hit as many home runs as possible. An out consists of any swing that does not result in a home run. The top four batters will advance to the second round where they will each get eight outs. The top two batters from the first and second rounds combined will advance to the finals. The finals feature five outs per batter, and home runs from the first two rounds will not carry over.
The 2010 Frontier League All-Star game, presented by Peoples National Bank, will take place at Rent One Park in Marion, Illinois, at 7:05 PM on Wednesday, July 14. The All-Star Game is the culmination of three days of activities at Rent One Park. The action begins on July 12 with a concert featuring Craig Morgan and Rodney Atkins. July 13 features the All-Star luncheon banquet and the Home Run Derby along with a Celebrity Softball Game that evening. Among the softball participants are former St. Louis Cardinals and current Fox Sports Midwest commentators Jack Clark and Al Hrabosky, both of whom will also be speaking at the banquet.
