Rascals Down Bums In Game One
O’FALLON, MO— River City Rascals second baseman, Bobby Burk’s three-run home run in the seventh inning was the difference as the Traverse City Beach Bums fell to the River City Rascals in the first game of a three-game series in front of 2,145 fans at T.R. With the Beach Bums leading 1-0 in the fifth inning, the Rascals got back-to-back RBI singles from Burk and third baseman Chris McClendon to give River City a 2-1 lead.
The action picked up again in the seventh inning. With two outs, Traverse City left fielder J.T. Hall ripped a two-out, RBI-double scoring center fielder Zack Pace and tying the score at two.
In the bottom of the inning, Burk, who narrowly missed a solo home run down the left field line earlier in the game, connected for his second home run of the season off of Beach Bums reliever Scott Dunn to give River City a 5-2 lead. Hall led the Beach Bums with two hits in the ballgame. The Beach Bums fall to 5-8 with the loss, while the Rascals improve their record to 8-5 in 2011. The Friday night contest marked the first time the Rascals and Beach Bums had played since the final game of the 2010 Frontier League Championship Series.
