Rarin’ To Go, Southpaw Re-signs With Beach Bums
TRAVERSE CITY, MI — The Traverse City Beach Bums are happy to announce the re-signing of LHP Rick Raraigh as they continue to prepare for 2012.
When Rick Raraigh joined the Beach Bums in mid-July he added strength to an already very dependable bullpen. Raraigh gave Manager Gregg Langbehn an extra arm that could be used in late innings as well as provide long relief and spot starts. With the Beach Bums Raraigh went 0-3 with a 5.57 era in six appearances including three starts while striking out 13 batters in 21 innings. His best appearance was a start on August 3rd against the Normal Cornbelters where he went 6.2 innings, struck out 4 and did not allow a run.
"We signed Raraigh late last season in the heart of a playoff race and threw him into the fire. He responded well, filling some important innings for us,” said Jason Wuerfel, Director of Baseball Operations. “With a little experience under his belt, I expect him to be even better next summer. He has a good fastball and a lot of movement on his pitches, which is tough to find in a left-handed pitcher at the Frontier League level."
Before joining the Beach Bums Raraigh finished his senior season at Seton Hill University with a 2.63 ERA while going 5-3 overall. Raraigh gave up 18 earned runs in 61.2 innings while striking out 57 to complement two complete games in 2011. As a Griffin, he was rewarded for his efforts with selections to First Team All WVIAC (West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) and honorable mention All Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
During the 2009 summer Raraigh spent time with the Slippery Rock Sliders of the Prospect League. He compiled a 3-3 overall record with a 2.54 ERA in 10 appearances including seven starts, and struck out 29 batters in 46 innings of work on the mound.
