TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(24-40) could only muster three hits on the evening as they fell to the River City Rascals(35-31) by a final score of 4-1. 

In the second inning, Ross Kivett led off with a single into left field. He took a wide turn at first and the fielder’s throw to try and pick him off went into the dugout and Kivett was awarded third on the error. Alexis Rivera promptly hit a fly ball to left, bringing Kivett in to score on the sacrifice. 

River City took the lead in the third with an RBI double by Josh Ludy and an RBI single by Braxton Martinez. In the seventh, Brandon Thomas scored from third on a squeeze play bunted down by Johnny Morales, doubling the River City advantage. Martinez made it a 4-1 game in the eighth with another RBI single. 

Hector Hernandez came within one pitch of a complete game for the win, improving to 6-6. He went eight and 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits and two walks, while he struck out 10. Augie Gallardo went three innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks. He falls to 3-7 on the season. Nick Kennedy threw just one pitch for the save tonight, his fourth of the year.                                                                                                                                                                     

Tomorrow evening, the Beach Bums and River City Rascals conclude this weekend’s three game set. Reinaldo Lopez takes the hill for the Beach Bums and Zeb Sneed starts for River City. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05pm and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, goes on the air at 4:45pm with the Budweiser pre-game show, on 101.9- The Bay. 

The finale of this weekend’s three-game set is also Family FUNday Sunday. Every game is family-friendly, but on Sundays, we make an EXTRA effort to make sure the kids feel EXTRA special. Kids, ages 5-12, can run the bases, sponsored by Taco Bell. The Beach Bums have BRAND NEW logo balls featured at 25% off in the gift shop, so stop in and grab yourself one before getting in line for player and coach autographs after the game. Gates open at 4pm and first pitch is at 5:05.
