TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums’(16-18) snapped a three game losing skid, defeating the Joliet Slammers(14-20) by a final score of 8-3.  Will Kengor rounds third base under the watchful eye of umpire Steve Bartelstein in a Kennedy Eichstadt photograph.

After a scoreless first inning, the Beach Bums got on the board with a two-out solo home run by Kendall Patrick, his second long ball of the season. With two out in the third, Jeff DeBlieux walked, stole second, and moved to third on a throwing error. Steven Patterson followed with an RBI double to give Traverse City a two run lead. Will Kengor then came to the plate and smashed a two run homer over the right-center field wall for his fifth homer of the season, giving the Beach Bums a 4-0 lead.

On a day that a few new faces joined the team, one of them, John Montgomery, hit the first homer of his professional career, a solo shot, extending the Bums’ advantage to five. Joliet got their first run of the game in the fifth when Josh Merrigan grounded home a run. Traverse City responded in the latter half of the inning when Kengor drove in DeBlieux on a sacrifice fly.

Joliet chipped away at their deficit in the top of the 6th when Chaz Meadows hit a two-run double into right field to pull the Slammers within three. In the bottom of the frame, Brook Clark reached second on an error then Ryan Garvey drove him home on a single. Kengor added another RBI in the seventh following Patterson’s second double of the game with an RBI single up the middle.
