NORMAL, IL – Will Kengor hit his eighth, ninth, and tenth home runs of the season to drive in five runs as the Traverse City Beach Bums(22-28) won the rubber game of this weekend’s series against the Normal Cornbelters(24-27) by a final score of 8-3. 

In the second inning, Normal took the lead on an RBI single by Nolan Meadows. In the 2nd, Steven Patterson got on with an infield hit then Will Kengor slapped a two-run opposite field home run over the left field wall, giving the Bums the 2-1 lead. The Cornbelters tied the game in the 5th on an RBI single by Santiago Chirino.  

With two outs in the seventh, Kengor hit his second long ball of the game, this time a solo blast, giving the Bums a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Chirino tied the game with another RBI single. In the eighth, Arby Fields walked then stole second. John Montgomery came to the plate and powered a two-run home run over the left field wall, giving Traverse City a two-run cushion.  

In the ninth, Patterson got on base with one away on a single to right. After he stole second, Will Kengor laced a line-drive homer over the left field wall, his third blast of the game, driving home Patterson. Kendall Patrick came to the plate and singled right up the middle then Alexis Rivera brought him in to score with a double into the right field corner, giving the Bums a five run advantage. 

Devin Over was credited with the win to improve to 2-1 on the year. He pitched the seventh allowing a run on two hits and a walk. Francisco Carillo suffered the loss, hurling the pivotal eighth inning. He allowed two runs on a hit and a walk to fall to 0-2.                                                                                                                                                                     

Steven Patterson and Will Kengor will now head to the All-Star Game in Joliet, IL, but the Beach Bums won’t be in action again until Friday night when they host the Schaumburg Boomers at Wuerfel Park. First pitch is at 7:05pm and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, goes on the air at 6:45pm with the Budweiser pre-game show, on 101.9- The Bay. 

Coming back from the All-Star break, the Beach Bums return to Wuerfel Park on Friday, July 14th, for Alzheimer’s awareness night.
