KENGOR POWERS BEACH BUMS TO WIN
FLORENCE, KY – In a game that was supposed to be part of a doubleheader, the Traverse City Beach Bums(5-5) upended the Florence Freedom(8-2), by a 2-0 score in seven innings.
On a rainy and stormy day, the pitchers took center stage in
today’s series opener. The only scoring came in the sixth inning on a two out
rally. Steven Patterson shot a deep fly ball to the center field fence for a
triple. Will Kengor stepped up a rocked a two-run blast over the wall in right,
his second homer of the season, driving in Patterson to provide all of the
offense the Bums would need.
John Havird was exceptional in his second start of the season,
hurling six innings, and only allowing one hit and four walks, while striking
out five. He improves to 2-0. The Freedom’s Jordan Kraus is a hard-luck loser
tonight as he pitched a complete game, and he struck out 11. He drops to 2-1.
The seventh was interrupted by an eleven minute rain delay but that didn’t stop
Jacob Lanning from throwing a perfect final inning for his third
rains were constant from the first pitch to the last, with the intensity growing
in the seventh inning and beyond. The decision was made to postpone the second
game of the doubleheader and play two seven-inning contests, tomorrow, starting
at 5:05pm. In game 1, it will be Augie Gallardo for the Bums and Tony Vocca for
the Freedom. Game 2 features newcomer Reinaldo Lopez and Cody Gray. Tom Willms
will have the call starting at 4:45pm for the Budweiser Pre-Game Show, on 101.9-
Bums return home on Friday, May 26th, to face the Southern Illinois
Miners, starting a six game homestand. The gates open at 6pm for a 7:05pm first
pitch at beautiful Wuerfel Park.
