TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums’(18-24) held an early 3-0 lead but couldn’t hold it as they fell to the Windy City Thunderbolts(23-20), by a final score of 5-4.  Suntan & Sunburn entertain before the fireworks in a Kayla Jackson photograph.

With one out in the first, Steven Patterson hit a solo bomb over the right field wall for his team-leading ninth home run of the season to give the Bums a 1-0 lead. In the third, Patterson and Will Kengor each walked then Kendall Patrick and John Montgomery each hit RBI singles to extend the Traverse City advantage. 

In the fourth, Windy City brought 10 men to the plate as they took the lead. It was RBI singles by Riley Krane and Ransom Lalonde, a two-run double by Blair Beck, and an RBI single by Keenyn Walker that gave the Thunderbolts a 5-3 lead. Will Kengor hit a solo homer in the fifth, his seventh, to pull the Beach Bums within one but they would not threaten to score again. 

TJ Santiago gave up four runs on eight hits but got enough run support for his first win, improving to 1-1. Kramer Champlin suffered the loss to drop to 4-3 after only surviving into the fourth. He allowed five runs on nine hits. The bullpens starred for both teams tonight to keep this game close. Joe Mello and Jacob Lanning combined for five and a third innings of shutout ball for the Bums and Windy City’s relievers held Traverse City hitless in the final four, including Brian Loconsole who earned his 16th save of the season. 

Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and the Windy City Thunderbolts lock up for game two of this weekend’s three game series. Kenneth Knudsen takes the bump for the Beach Bums and Jake Fisher goes for Windy City. First pitch is at 7:05pm and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, goes on the air at 6:45pm with the Budweiser Pre-Game Show, on 101.9-The Bay. 

Tomorrow night, it’s a special Super Hero Saturday. Come dressed as your favorite character and receive a free meal voucher. Also, members of the US Air Force Thunderbirds, the Golden Knights parachute team, and the Coast Guard will be at Wuerfel Park. Gates open at 6pm and first pitch against the Windy City Thunderbolt is at 7:05pm.
