TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(11-11) used an 18 hit attack to outscore the Gateway Grizzlies(5-17), by a final score of 9-1.

Gateway got on the board in the first with an RBI double by Blake Brown but the Beach Bums scored three in the bottom of the inning and didn’t look back. Jeff DeBlieux led off with a single then Arby Fields moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Steven Patterson drove in DeBlieux with a base hit to center, tying the game. After Will Kengor moved Patterson to third with a ground-out, he scored on an RBI single by Alexis Rivera. Elijah Trail followed with a single then Kendall Patrick hit an RBI single to close out the scoring in the inning.

In the second, DeBlieux doubled to right with one out and Fields drove him in with a single. The Bums added another run In the third when Giancarlo Brugnoni doubled, moved to third on a Ryan Garvey infield hit, then scored on another Fields RBI single, making it a 5-1 Traverse City lead.

After a scoreless fourth, Garvey reached on a single to center with one out in the fifth. He then moved to second on a wild pitch, then to third on a passed ball. Fields came up, walked and when he tried to steal second, the catcher attempted to pick off Garvey at third but threw the ball away, allowing him to score.

The offense continued after the stretch when Brugnoni walked with one out. DeBlieux drove him in with an RBI bloop double down the left field line. Gateway then changed pitchers but the new hurler allowed Fields to reach on an infield hit, then Patterson walked to load the bases. Will Kengor stepped to the plate and laced an RBI single to right adding to the Bums’ advantage. Traverse City added one more run in the eighth on a Garvey double, driving in Kendall Patrick, who doubled earlier in the inning.
