Windy City got the game off to a roaring start when Ransom Lalonde hit a two-run single to center to take an early lead. The Bums responded right away in the bottom of the first. Marco Derkes led off with a walk, followed by a Ryan Bottger single. Both runners moved up on a well-executed sacrifice bunt by Steven Patterson. Will Kengor got them on the board with a sacrifice fly, scoring Derkes. Elijah Trail then tied the game on an RBI single, bringing Bottger in. After Giancarlo Brugnoni singled, Christian Santisteban spun a slow roller up the third base line. The ‘Bolts catcher tried to make the play to first but it was late and Trail was able to score, giving the Bums a 3-2 after one.

Traverse City added on to the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Bottger walked and later scored on a throwing error. In the top of the sixth, Windy City brought eight men to the plate and took a 5-4 lead. Keefer hit an RBI sacrifice fly to drive in Tim Zier then, later in the inning, Kyle Wood hit a two-run to center field.

Not to be outdone, the Beach Bums fought back by bringing ten men to the plate in the bottom of the inning. Giancarlo Brugnoni led off by inducing a walk. Two batters later, Kendall Patrick was hit by a pitch moving Brugnoni to second. With two outs, Derkes was walked and bases were loaded. Bottger tied the game on an RBI single to bring in Brugnoni, then took the lead on a Patterson two-run single. Kengor then singled in a run followed by an RBI double by Trail, and the Bums had a 9-5 advantage.

Traverse City wasn’t done there as, with one out, Trail hit a single to right, then moved to second on a Brugnoni single to center. Two batters later, Patrick ripped a triple to right, scoring both Trail and Brugnoni, to extend the lead to six. Windy City’s Tim Zier hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth, but that is as far as the comeback would go.

Benjamin Libuda earned the win for the Beach Bums to improve to 3-3. Michael Shreves had a good start for Traverse City, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, a walk, and two strikeouts.
