BUMS DROP LOW SCORING AFFAIR
TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(10-23)
and Washington Wild Things(18-15) locked horns in a pitchers’ duel and
Washington pulled out the win by the final score of 3-2.
Jamal Austin led
off the game for Washington with a single to centerfield. He stole second and
moved to third on a groundout. Bryan Haar was able to bring him in to score on
an RBI single to left to make it 1-0 after one inning.
In the bottom of
the second, Will Kengor took the first pitch he saw and slammed it over the
right field wall for his fifth homer of the season, to tie the game. Washington
responded in the third when Austin Wobrock doubled to start the inning and three
batters later, scored on another Haar RBI single.
In the next
inning, Andrew Heck singled and stole second to get things going. After a Grant
Fink walk, Kyle Pollock grounded a ball back to the pitcher, who threw to
second, but the shortstop who was covering dropped the ball, allowing Heck to
score what turned out to be an important insurance run.
After a scoreless
fifth and sixth innings, Christian Santisteban, in his first professional game,
led off the seventh with a double to the right field gap, for his first hit.
Gaby Juarbe moved him to third on a groundout, then Jeff DeBlieux drove him home
with an RBI groundout, cutting the lead in half. The Beach Bums got the lead off
man on in the ninth but failed to bring him in to tie the
