Bums Come Back For 8-4 Win
TRAVERSE CITY, MI— The Traverse City Beach Bums scored eight runs to battle back from a four-run deficit as they beat the Normal Cornbelters in front of 2,994 fans at Wuerfel Park on a rainy Tuesday night. Trailing 4-0 in the fifth inning, the Beach Bums went on to score eight runs over the next four innings of the contest. A two-run double from shortstop Tom Zebroski helped the Beach Bums tie the game at four in the sixth, and a three-run double from third baseman Jose Vargas helped the Beach Bums take a 8-4 lead. The Beach Bums drew eight walks, all of which occurred once the eight-run rally began in the fifth inning.
Traverse City starting pitcher David Nathanson (1-1) pitched the first nine-inning complete game for the Beach Bums while earning his first win of the season. Cornbelters reliever Andy Mee (1-1) pitched just 1.1 innings allowing three runs in suffering his first loss of the season.
With the win, the Beach Bums improve to 35-32, while Normal falls to 32-35 on the season. Beach Bums second baseman Hector Bernal had four hits at the plate to lead the Traverse City offense.
