TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums (29-40) fell behind early in tonight’s game and could not find a way back, losing to the Normal Cornbelters (37-32) by the final score of 5-1.

With two outs in the first inning, and a man on first, Normal’s Nolan Meadows whacked a two-run bomb over the right field wall for his league-leading 22nd of the season, giving them an early 2-0 lead. In the second, Dylan Kelly drove in Justin Fletcher, who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. Santiago Chirino, later in the inning, hit a hard grounder toward second. As it ticked off of a diving Steven Patterson’s glove, Kelly scored to make it a 4-0 game.

The Beach Bums offense notched their first run of the game in the fourth inning. Will Kengor led off with a double into the right field corner. He was moved to third when Elijah Trail grounded to short, then he scored on a Steven Patterson grounder to second. The Cornbelters picked up an insurance run in the seventh when Ty Morris scored on an RBI grounder by Dudley.

Chris Carmain earned the win for Normal to improve to 5-6. He went 6 2/3 innings, allowing just one run and six hits, two walk, and he struck out four. Austin Bembnowski was only able to go two innings, allowing four runs on three hits, two walks, and struck out two. He falls to 2-1. The Beach Bums’ bullpen did all they could to keep them in the game with a six inning performance.
