With one out in the first inning, Jeff DeBlieux and Steven Patterson walked then Will Kengor drove in DeBlieux with double into left to give the Beach Bums a 1-0 lead. Evansville took the lead in the top of the third after Josh Allen tripled and Dane Phillips hit a two run homer to right-center field. Traverse City responded in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.

Arby Fields led off the inning with a walk then DeBlieux beat out a bunt single, moving Fields to second. Steven Patterson stepped up for an RBI double into right, tying the game at two. Kengor followed with a single up the middle, scoring both DeBlieux and Patterson, for a 4-2 lead. In the fifth, Alexis Rivera got in on the action with a one out double to center. He later scored, after a Kendall Patrick walk, on a double by Brook Clark.

Evansville drew within two, in the seventh, on Phillips’ third RBI of the game, this time a run-scoring single. In the pivotal eighth inning, the Beach Bums sent 11 men to plate, to pull away from the Otters. Elijah Trail led off the frame with a double then moved to third on a Lucas Hunter sacrifice bunt. Fields walked and stole second, and DeBlieux then grounded to first but the throw home got away, scoring both base-runners and moving him to second. After Patterson walked, Kengor and Rivera followed with RBI singles, Clark grounded in a run, and Trail hit an RBI infield single, closing the scoring.  The Beach Bums turned 13 hits into 11 runs, with Kengor leading the way going 4-for-5, with 4 RBI and 1 run scored.

Kramer Champlin picked up his fourth win in a row with a seven inning performance. He allowed two earned runs on nine hits and a walk while fanning seven. He improves to 4-1. Felix Baez gave up five runs in five innings, falling to 2-3 with tonight’s loss.
