NORMAL, IL – The Traverse City Beach Bums(21-28) fell behind early but came back to defeat the Normal Cornbelters(24-26) by a final score of 5-2.

In the first inning, Jesus Solarzano and Diego Cedeno got RBI singles for Normal, giving them a 2-0 lead. The Beach Bums responded in the top of the second, with Kendall Patrick leading off with a single. John Montgomery then doubled to move Patrick to third. Arby Fields followed with a line drive that one-hopped over the right field wall for a grounds-rule double, scoring both Montgomery and Patrick to tie the game at two.

With one out in the fifth, Jeff DeBlieux legged out an infield single then moved to second after a pick-off throw was botched. Will Kengor came up with two away and drove in DeBlieux with a single, and the Bums had their first lead of the weekend series. In the sixth, Montgomery got a one out single, with Fields grabbing a base-hit of his own. John Hauser then lifted a double into left to drive in Montgomery. After DeBlieux walked to load the bases, Steven Patterson drew a walk for an easy RBI and the Bums lead by three.

Reinaldo Lopez had another solid outing on the mound going seven innings. He allowed two runs, spreading out seven hits, walking one, and he fanned five. With tonight’s win, he improves to 2-5. Charlie Gillies suffered the loss to fall to 4-4 after he allowed four earned runs in five and two-thirds innings. Matt Williams hurled a perfect ninth with a strikeout to earn his first professional save.
