CRESTWOOD, IL – The Traverse City Beach Bums’(28-47) Alexis Rivera drove in two and scored twice, leading to a win over the Windy City Thunderbolts(41-35), by a final score of 3-1. 

After three scoreless innings, Jeff DeBlieux and Orlando Rivera led off the fourth with back-to-back singles to left. Steven Patterson was able to move the runners up 90 feet on a slow groundout to the right side of the infield. Alexis Rivera came to the plate and hit a deep fly ball to center, scoring DeBlieux on the sacrifice, giving the Beach Bums a 1-0 lead.  

In the seventh, Alexis Rivera doubled the Bums’ advantage with his 10th home run of the season, a solo bomb over the right field wall. Alexis Rivera helped add the Bums’ third run as well when he walked with one out in the ninth. Luke Lowery and Nick Murphy each followed with singles to load the bases then Rivera scored on a passed ball. Larry Balkwill led off the bottom of the inning with a solo homer but Windy City could come no closer. 

Brian Bayliss picked up the win in the second straight quality start, improving to 2-4. He went in to seventh, allowing four hits and a walk, while striking out five. Clay Chapman gets the loss in a seven and one-third inning effort, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk. He falls to 4-5. Augie Gallardo got the last two outs of the game to earned his first career professional save. 

Tuesday night, the Beach Bums return home for a seven game home stand, starting with a double-header against the Joliet Slammers. There will be two seven-inning contests with game one’s first pitch scheduled for 5:05pm and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, will go on the air with the Budweiser Pre-Game Show at 4:45 on 101.9FM-The Bay. 

When the Beach Bums return to Wuerfel Park on Tuesday, it’s a special doubleheader against the Joliet Slammers. It’s also another Silver Slugger/Thrifty Tuesday! You can eat cheap at the ballpark with a 5 dollar meal deal, including a hot dog or brat, chips, and a soda. Fans 60 and over are invited out for a great night and will receive half-off chair back tickets. The gates open at 4pm for a 5:05 first pitch, in game one of two 7-inning contests.
