TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(30-47) won both games of today’s doubleheader over the Joliet Slammers(35-43), by two runs. The Bums took game one, 3-1, and game two, 6-4.

Joliet got on the board first, after a scoreless first two innings, on an Edwin Gomez RBI single in the third. With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Alexis Rivera singled then moved to third on a Kendall Patrick double. Arby Fields then drove them both in with a two-run single to center, giving the Beach Bums a 2-1 lead. They added more in the fifth, starting with a Jeff DeBlieux single. He stole second, moved to third on an Orlando Rivera infield hit, then scored on a double play.

Kramer Champlin moved back over .500 with the win, improving to 7-6. He went six innings and allowed a run on six hits and two walks while striking out three. Conrad Wozniak suffered the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits through five innings. He falls to 3-2. Matt Williams faced the minimum in the seventh for his second save of the season.

Game two started in a similar way to game one with Joliet getting on the board first. In the second, Steven Pollakov hit an RBI single, giving the Slammers a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Luke Lowery led off with a walk. Two batters later, Jeremy Stidham tied the game with an RBI double to left. He then scored when Quintin Alexander lifted a single to center. Joliet retook the lead in the fourth when Brady Barzynski and Pollakov scored on an error.

Joliet made it a 4-2 game in the fifth when Pollakov was issued a bases-loaded walk. With one out in the bottom of the inning, Jeff DeBlieux walked, then both Arby Fields and Steven Patterson singled to load the bases. John Montgomery gave the Bums the lead back for good when he cleared the bases with a triple. He then scored from third on a wild pitch, and Traverse City led 6-4.
