BEACH BUMS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER AT JOLIET

JOLIET, IL The Traverse City Beach Bums(35-52) scored in the first inning of both ends of tonights twin bill, earning 7-5 and 3-1 wins over the Joliet Slammers(39-49). 

For the second game in a row, Jeff DeBlieux led off the game with a single and scored. Tonight, it was a shot to left. Orlando Rivera sacrificed him to second and Steven Patterson walked to put runners on the corners. Luke Lowery then smashed a double to center, scoring DeBlieux and Patterson, for the early 2-0 lead. After Arby Fields walked, Nick Murphy hit a two-run double, doubling the Bums advantage. 

Joliet started to chip away at their deficit in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single by Ridge Hoopii-Haslam. In the the 3rd, David Gonzalez scored on an error, Hoopii-Haslam and Edwin Gomez each hit RBI singles to tie the game. Joliet took the lead, 5-4, in the fourth on a Dom Iero RBI single. 

In the seventh, Jeff DeBlieux led off by legging out an infield single. Two batters later, Steven Patterson followed with a single of his own, putting the tying run on base. Luke Lowery came to the plate and blasted a three run home run over the left field wall, his third of the season, giving the Bums the lead for good with the final score 7-5. 

Brian Bayliss went six innings for the win to improve to 3-5. He allowed just one earned run on seven hits and three walks while fanning six. Confesor Lara drops to 2-3 after blowing the save and suffering the loss. He allowed three runs on three hits in his only inning of work. 

The Beach Bums once again took an early lead in game 2, thanks to a two out rally in the first. Steven Patterson started it with a single to center, followed by an infield hit by Luke Lowery. Alexis Rivera grounded a ball up the middle but it snuck off the glove of the shortstop, scoring Patterson. Arby Field then laced an RBI single into right, giving the Beach Bums a 2-0 lead. 

Joliet was able to cut the lead in half in the fifth with an RBI double by Travis Bolin. In the sixth, Arby Fields singled to left then moved on to second on a pick-off throw that got away. Kendall Patrick then drove him home with an RBI single to left, giving Traverse City their two run lead back. 

Dominic Reed had his best performance of his short Beach Bums career, going four and a third innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four. He improves to 1-1. Niko Uherek went five and a third innings, falling to 0-2 with the second game loss. He gave up two earned runs on seven hits and three walks. 

Saturday night, the Beach Bums and Joliet Slammers continue this weekends four game series with game three. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm(EDT) and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, will go on the air with the Budweiser pre-game show at 6:45 on 101.9FM- The Bay.
