Joliet got the game’s offense started in the top of the third inning when they loaded the bases with two outs, and Joe Staley hit a two-run single to left, giving the Slammers a 2-0 lead. With one out in the fifth, Gaby Juarbe dribbled a grounder to the pitcher but he threw it away and Juarbe ended up on second. Jaurbe then advanced to third on a Casey Rodrigue single. Jeff DeBlieux got the Bums on the board by driving in Juarbe with an RBI single. After Ryan Bottger walked, Jose Vargas slipped a single into the outfield, bringing in Rodrigue, and the game was now tied at two.

DeBlieux as part of a four hit night, hit a one out triple in the top of the seventh inning. After another Bottger walk, Vargas drove him home with a sacrifice fly to deep right field, and the Bums had the lead. Bottger then followed with a stolen base and scored on a Will Kengor RBI single. After the stretch, Joliet cut the lead in half when Casey Fletcher scored on a ground out, but that is as close as the Slammers would come.

Benjamin Libuda had his best start since joining the rotation with a fine six inning performance. He allowed just two runs on five hits, one walk, and he struck out five. Libuda improves to 4-5. Sean Townsley gets the loss to fall to 7-8, after going 6 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. Luke Barker nabbed his seventh save of the season, getting through the ninth unscathed.
