BEACH BUMS-SLAMMERS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER
IL – After
falling in game one of today’s twin bill, 7-1, the Traverse City Beach
Bums(33-43) blasted their way to a 10-1 game two win over the Joliet
Slammers(43-35), taking the weekend series, two games to one.
after a scoreless first two innings, took a 1-0 lead on a Carter Bell RBI
single. In the fifth, the Beach Bums answered back when Gaby Juarbe singled,
stole second, then scored on a Marcos Derkes RBI single. In the sixth, Joliet
sent nine men to the plate to not only take the lead but break the game open.
Charlie White hit an RBI single, and on the play, a second run scored on an
error. Phillip Bates then scored on a wild pitch and Jake Gronsky hit a
three-run homer, his seventh of the game to seal the game.
O’Sullivan picked up the complete game win, allowing one run on four hits, three
walks, and he struck out nine. He improved to 8-1. Tucker Simpson is stuck with
the loss to drop to 2-3. He went into the sixth inning and allowed two runs on
six hits and four walk, while striking out two.

Will Kengor led off with a double then scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Elijah
Trail. Steven Patterson followed with a double then Giancarlo Brugnoni moved him
to third with a single. Kendall Patrick singled to center to drive in Patterson
then Marcos Derkes made it 3-0 as he plated Brugnoni with an RBI single to
led off the third inning with a solo blast to left for his 12th of
the season. Later in the inning, Patterson hit his second double of the game
then scored on a Brugnoni RBI single. In the bottom of the inning, Charlie White
hit an RBI sacrifice fly for the Slammers’ lone run of the game. Jeff DeBlieux
led off the fourth with a hustle double to center. Two batters later, Ryan
Bottger laced his first home run of the season to make it
away in the fifth, Brugnoni blasted a solo homer to left for his ninth of the
season. In the sixth, DeBlieux led off with a walk, then moved to second when
Derkes reached on an error. Bottger picked up his third RBI of the game with a
single to center, driving in DeBlieux. On the same play Derkes scored on a
throwing error, making it a nine run lead.
Stoops was fantastic for the Bums, pitching all seven innings for the complete
game, his third of the season. He allowed just one run on three hits and awalk,
while striking out six. At one point, he retired fourteen Slammers in a row. He

The Beach Bums will be back in action on Tuesday to start a three game series against the Washington Wild Things. On the mound for Washington will be Matt Fraudin while the Beach Bums counter with Michael Shreves. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the call starting at 6:45pm with the Miller Lite pre-game show on 101.9-FM The Bay.
