BEACH BUMS SHUTOUT FLORENCE
TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(27-35) defeated the Florence Freedom(26-36) by the final score of 5-0, taking the first two games of this week’s three game series. Steven Patterson rounds third and heads home with a high 5 from Manager Dan Rohn in an Emily Long photograph.
The Bums started off quickly in tonight’s contest when Marcos
Derkes led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to left. After
moving to third on a ground out, Derkes scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Steven
Patterson. With one out in the second, Christian Santisteban doubled to right.

In the third, Steven Patterson blasted a solo shot, his
team-leading tenth of the year, as he has now hit a home run in each of his last
three games. The Beach Bums added a final run in the eighth after Derkes was hit
by a pitch and scored on a Jose Vargas RBI single.
Beach Bums’ starter Dylan Stoops went six innings to get the win, and improve to 6-3. He allowed just two hits, two walks, hit two batters, and struck out six. Jeremy Gooding gets the loss to drop to 4-6. He pitched for 7 2/3 innings, allowing all five runs, on seven hits, and he struck out 10.
Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums once again take on the Florence Freedom, the finale of this three game series. Cody Gray takes the hill for Florence while Michael Shreves will go for the series sweep for the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm, on 101.9 The Bay.
