O’FALLON, MO – The Traverse City Beach Bums(24-33) dropped the Friday night series's opener against the  River City Rascals(30-29), by a final score of 13-0. 

For the fourth straight game, the Beach Bums found themselves trailing after their opponent’s first offensive inning. Tonight, it was an RBI single by Josh Silver, giving the Rascals a 1-0 lead. In the second, Clint Freeman led off with a home run over the right-center field wall, doubling the River City advantage.  

After a scoreless third, River City sent 14 men to the plate and broke the game open. Brandon Thomas started the onslaught with a three-run double to right. Later in the inning, Josh Silver knocked a run in on a bunt base hit. Paul Kronenfeld then hit a two run double and Josh Ludy hit an RBI single. Jason Merjano finished the long inning scoring two on a single to right, giving River City an 11-0 lead. They added two in the eighth when Merjano walked with the bases loaded and Thomas knocked in a run on a grounder. 

River City’s Dan Ludwig hurled the complete game shut out win, allowing eight hits and a walk while striking out 10. He improves to 5-1. Brian Bayliss went three and two-thirds, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits and a walk to fall to 0-2. The lone good news for the Bums was, in the ninth, Alexis River hit a single to right to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.                                                                                                                                                                     

Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and River City Rascals play game two of this weekend’s three game series. John Havird will start for the Beach Bums and Tim Koons goes for River City. First pitch from CarShield Field in O’Fallon, MO, is scheduled for 7:35pm(EDT) and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, goes on the air at 7:15pm with the Budweiser pre-game show, on 101.9- The Bay.
