O’FALLON, MO – The Traverse City Beach Bums (25-35) got out to a fast start on Sunday afternoon and by the end of the day beat the River City Rascals (28-30), 8-2.

It didn’t take long for the Bums to get on the board as Marco Derkes led off the game with a solo shot, his first homer of the season, to take a 1-0 lead. With one out, Steven Patterson hit a double to left then scored on an RBI single by Elijah Trail, to double the advantage. Traverse City blew the game open in the second, starting with Giarcarlo Brugnoni hitting a solo bomb for his sixth of the season. Jeff DeBlieux and Derkes each singled later in the inning then Steven Patterson blasted a three-run home run, his eighth of the year, and the Beach Bums led 6-0.

In the bottom of the second, River City’s Josh Ludy and Clint Freeman hit back-to-back homers to pull the Rascals within four. From there, the pitching took over until the seventh, when Patterson walked, and Jose Vargas drove him in with an RBI double. The Bums finished the Rascals off in the ninth, starting with a Patterson walk, a Vargas double, and Trail getting hit by a pitch to load the bases. Patterson then scored as Christian Santisteban grounded into a double play.
