TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(23-31) could only muster two runs on six hits against the Normal Cornbelters(26-29), falling by a final score of 5-2.

In the first, Normal took an early 1-0 lead on a Nolan Meadows RBI single. The Beach Bums responded in the second, as Alexis Rivera led off with a single then stole second. Nick Murphy then laced a double down the left field line to plate Rivera and tie the game. After a Zach Files fly ball moved Murphy to third, Arby Fields reached on an infield single, and John Montgomery got on via a fielder’s choice, loading the bases. Brook Clark then grounded to third, scoring Murphy, and giving the Bums the lead.

The Cornbelters tied the game up at two in the third on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Dudley. It took until the seventh but they took the lead again at 3-2 when Craig Lepre grounded in a run. In the top of the 9th, and after a 24 minute rain delay, Normal extended their advantage to three with a two run triple by Santiago Chirino.

Augie Gallardo had a good start for the Beach Bums, going six and 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and a walk, but he falls to 3-5 with tonight’s loss. Normal reliever Chad Gendron allowed a hit and struck out two for his first win of the season, improving to 1-1. Shawn Blackwell hurled two perfect innings, striking out four, for his ninth save of the season.
