WUERFEL PARK – Blue skies and sunshine came out along with the fans for the 11th Annual FANFest.  The 2016 Beach Bums split up and scrimmaged in the Yellow/Navy game allowing fans and coaches alike a look at how the team is shaping up to defend their title. After a scoreless first three innings, the Navy team struck first in the top of the 4th on an RBI double by Ryan Bottger. In the 5thBrandon Thomasson slammed a two out triple that plated Kendall Patrick.  Jose Vargas followed with an RBI single to give the Navy team a 3-0 lead. The Yellow team got the offense going in the 6th after both Tyler Peterson and Brian McKenna both reached and executed a double steal. Peterson was driven home by a Brett Balkan ground-out to make it 3-1. The Yellow team brought the tying run to the plate in the final inning but the game finished on a 6-6-3 double play.

2015 All-Star Kramer Champlin picked up the win for the Navy team, going five innings with 55 pitches, striking out four, while only allowing two hits. Dylan Stoops was solid for the Yellow but suffered the loss. Ashton Perritt earned the save, inducing the game ending twin killing.

“Champlin had outstanding command from both sides of the plate,” said Beach Bums Manager Dan Rohn.  “He did what we expect from our #1 pitcher.”
