BEACH BUMS INK SLUGGER THOMASSON

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – With less than three weeks until spring training, the Traverse City Beach Bums made a major addition to the roster, signing slugging 1B/OF Brandon Thomasson.

"Thomasson is an intimidating figure at the plate and is the kind of guy opposing managers have to account for in the lineup," said Beach Bums Director of Baseball Operations, Jason Wuerfel. "He is athletic enough to play at 1st base or either corner outfield spot, which gives us a lot of options with the lineup."

Last season, Thomasson played for the Burlington Royals in the Appalachian League. In 47 games, he hit .246 with nine home runs and 24 RBI. He averaged a homer every 18.6 at-bats. He also smacked 12 doubles and two triples.

The ninth round selection of Kansas City in the 2014 MLB draft, the Florida native began his career with Idaho Falls in the Pioneer League hitting .236 with two homers and driving in 27.

Thomasson gained his reputation as a slugger in two seasons at Tennessee Tech University. As a senior for the Golden Eagles in 2014 he led the team with 20 doubles, 22 home runs and 76 RBI. He helped lead the team to the Ohio Valley Conference championship game and was named an OVC First Team performer and a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-American. That season he also led NCAA Division I in RBI and was second in home runs.

As a junior he was also a First Team All-OVC member when he hit .275 with 12 homers and 52 RBI.

The Beach Bums begin defense of their championship Friday May 13th at Southern Illinois. The home opener at Wuerfel Park is Friday May 20th vs. Joliet.

The Traverse City Beach Bums are the 2015 Frontier League Champions and will be playing their 11th season of professional baseball in Northern Michigan starting May 2016. All home games are played at Wuerfel Park, a state of the art ballpark located in Blair Township, MI. The Beach Bums business offices are open from 8:30 am to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday. Sponsorships, Season Tickets, Group packages, patio tables and suites are all available for the 2016 season.
