TRAVERSE CITY, MI  The Traverse City Beach Bums opened the gates of Wuerfel Park for the first time 2017 for their 12th annual Fan Fest. Fans had the opportunity to come out to experience the newest features of the stadium, sample food and drinks, and watch the teams first scrimmage of the pre-season.

The yearly Yellow/Navy game was a great chance for the players, both new and returning, to get on the field in front an appreciative crowd and show their skills. In the scrimmage, the Navy team upended the Yellow by a final score of 4-1. Yellow took an early 1-0 lead in the second an RBI single by Nick Murphy, driving home Lucas Hunter, who led off the frame with a double.

It took until the sixth before the Navy team got on the board. Giancarlo Brugnoni's RBI double to bring home Elijah Trail, tied the game. Brugnoni himself later scored on an RBI single by Tyler Peterson. The Navy team added two more to their lead in the seventh on an error and Peterson's second RBI of the game, this one coming on a fielders choice.

The pitching staff for the Beach Bums shined this afternoon, with James Ball picking up the win with two perfect innings. Nate Abel also had a standout appearance, striking out four of the seven batters he faced. Rob Blanc, for the Yellow team, struck out two, while not allowing a hit. Michael Shreves was able to work a perfect ninth inning with a strikeout to close out the ballgame.

Following the scrimmage, fans were invited onto the concourse to meet the 2017 edition of the Beach Bums, and to grab pictures and autographs. Albeit a bit breezy, it was a beautiful day at the ballpark and a fitting start to another great season of Traverse City Beach Bums baseball at Wuerfel Park.

In other news, Bobby Wernes an experienced 3B/1B prospect for the 2017 team, was signed early Saturday morning by the Colorado Rockies and is already on his way to his new team.

Individual game tickets are now available 24/7 via this website, or by calling the box office (231) 943-0100 Monday through Friday 9 to 6, Saturday 10 to 4.  Wuerfel Park is closed on non-gameday Sundays.
