The Beach Bums struck first in this game when first baseman Chase Burch launched a long two-run home run to left-center field to give Traverse City a 2-0 lead.
After a Jason Codiroli RBI-single in the second inning, the Rascals would come back to tie the score thanks to a wild pitch from Beach Bums starter Eric Thomas and a corresponding throwing error by catcher John Parham to score two runs. A throwing error by second baseman James Guerrero allowed a third run to score and tie the game at three.
In the third, Traverse City would score a pair of runs on RBI-singles from Parham and Evan Sharpley to give the Beach Bums a 5-3 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Beach Bums left-fielder J.T. Hall made a highlight-reel leaping catch at the wall to rob Rascals designated hitter Jason Carr of a home run to momentarily preserve the Beach Bums lead.
With Traverse City ahead 5-4 in the seventh inning, shortstop Hector Bernal ripped a solo home run to right-center field to give the Beach Bums a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Traverse City relief pitcher D.J. Johnson retired the first two batters he faced. With two outs, Rascals first baseman Joash Brodin reached base on a catchers’ interference call. The next hitter, right-fielder Stephen Holdren, tied the game at six with a two-run home run to right field.
The score would stay the same until the tenth inning, when Rascals shortstop Brian Harris lined a game-winning RBI-single to right field, scoring center fielder Brandon Johnson and giving River City a 7-6 win.
The Beach Bums fall to 5-9 with the loss, while the Rascals improve their record to 8-6 in 2011.
