BEACH BUMS FALL IN CLASSIC PITCHERS DUEL
CRESTWOOD, IL – The Traverse City Beach Bums(27-47) dropped a tight decision to the Windy City Thunderbolts(41-34), 1-0, with both teams combining for only eight hits.
After Reinaldo Lopez took a no-hitter into the sixth, Windy City finally was able to break through in the seventh. Ransom Lalonde Snuck an RBI single into centerfield, scoring Kyle Wood, who walked earlier in the inning. The Beach Bums’ biggest threat came in the second when Luke Lowery, Alexis Rivera, and Quintin Alexander singled to load the bases with one out.
Jake Fisher earned the complete game victory, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out 11. At one point, he retired 16 Beach Bums in a row on his way to improving his record to 7-7. Reinaldo Lopez also picked up a complete game, his third, allowing just the one run on three hits and two walks. He struck out five, falling to 3-9.
Sunday night, the Beach Bums and Windy City Thunderbolts will conclude this weekend’s three game set. Kramer Champlin gets the ball for the Beach Bums while Clay Chapman starts for Windy City. First pitch will be at 6:05pm ET and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, will go on the air with the Budweiser Pre-Game Show at 5:45 on 101.9FM-The Bay.
When the Beach Bums return to Wuerfel Park on Tuesday, it’s a special doubleheader against the Joliet Slammers. It’s also another Silver Slugger/Thrifty Tuesday! You can eat cheap at the ballpark with a 5 dollar meal deal, including a hot dog or brat, chips, and a soda. Fans 60 and over are invited out for a great night and will receive half-off chair back tickets. The gates open at 4pm for a 5:05 first pitch, in game one of two 7-inning contests.
