BEACH BUMS DROP MATINEE TO 'BOLTS 6-3
CRESTWOOD, IL – The Traverse City Beach Bums’(1-3) offense stalled in the later innings of today's midday game as they lost to the Windy City Thunderbolts (4-1), 6-3.
After the Beach Bums scored three runs in the fourth inning, they could only muster three more base runners on a hit and two walks for the rest of the game. The Thunderbolts got on the board first, in the third inning, when Cody Keefer and Corey Bass hit back-to-back doubles, the latter driving home Keefer for a 1-0 lead. After a Kevin Barker single moved Bass to third, he scored on an RBI sacrifice fly to centerfield by Coco Johnson.
The Beach Bums responded in the top of the fourth with a hit parade around the bases. Jeremy Delgado and Steven Patterson were first with singles to center and left, respectively. Jose Vargas added to his four game hit streak with an single of his own to drive home Delgado, cutting the deficit in half. Nate Causey would join the party with an RBI single of his own to bring in Patterson and tie the game at two. Two batters later Matt Burns knocked a single into left field. Scoring on the play was Vargas, and the Bums had a 3-2 lead. All in all, Traverse City had six hits in the inning, all singles.
Ryan Strombom (1-0) got the win for
Windy City. His relievers, Tyler Murphy, Joel Murphy, and Cameron Giannini,
took care of business as well, only allowing two base runners for the final three
innings. Giannini had a perfect ninth for his second save of the season. Beach Bums Jacob
Lanning (0-1) suffered the loss, hurling five innings, allowing five runs on
eight hits and a walk, with three strikeouts.
