BEACH BUMS DOWNWARD SLIDE CONTINUES
CITY, MI – The
Traverse City Beach Bums(24-39) held an early lead but the offense stalled in
falling tonight to the River City Rascals(34-31) by a final score of
The Beach Bums took an early 1-0 lead in the first. With two away,
Steven Patterson singled up the middle and Will Kengor hit a double down the
right field line. After Ross Kivett walked, Alexis Rivera hit a soft grounder to
the left side for an RBI infield single. River City took the lead in the top of
the fifth on an RBI grounder by Mike Jurjella, and an RBI single by Johnny
The Rascals extended their lead to two with an RBI infield single
by Morales in the seventh. In the eighth, Brandon Thomas knocked in a run on an
RBI single then Morales struck again with another RBI double to make it 5-1 in
favor of River City.
Tim Koons went 6 and 2/3 innings for the win to improve to 4-3 on the season. He gave up one run on six hits and a walk while striking out nine. John Havird had a solid start for the Beach Bums, going six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks. He fanned three but falls to 4-4 with the loss.
Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums once again take on the River City
Rascals in game two of this weekend’s three game set. Augie Gallardo gets the
call for the Beach Bums and Hector Hernandez starts for River City. First pitch
is scheduled for 7:05pm and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, goes on the
air at 6:45pm with the Budweiser pre-game show, on 101.9- The
Lake Michigan Credit Union will be hosting our SuperHero Saturday! Fans in
attendance will receive a super hero cape at the gate, while supplies last.
Also, come dressed as your favorite character and receive a free meal voucher
for a hot dog or brat, chips, and soda, upon entry to the park. The gates of
Wuerfel Park open at 6pm for a 7:05 first pitch.
