BEACH BUMS CONTINUE TO BOLSTER 2016 ROSTER

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums continue to bolster their roster for the 2016 season, announcing the signing of RHP Kyle McKay.  Annie Sakkab file photograph

"McKay has a lot of life on the fastball and hard, biting actions on the breaking ball,” said Jason Wuerfel, Director of Baseball Operations.  “There is no doubt he will have some of the best stuff on our staff if not the best.  The next step for him is developing into a pitcher and not just a thrower.  If he does that he can turn a lot of heads.”

McKay joins the Beach Bums following a stint with the 2015 Skagit Valley Lumberjacks in the Mount Rainier Professional Baseball League where he went 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA. Prior to that, he was an All-Crossroads League Honorable Mention selection at the University of Saint Francis (Fort Wayne IN) in 2014. For the Cougars, McKay went 5-5 in 13 starts with four complete games and a 3.28 ERA. In 85.0 innings he struck out 86 batters.

The 23-year old also has international experience, pitching for Team Canada in the 2013 World Baseball Challenge. Hailing from Aurora, Ontario, McKay is just the second Canadian-born player in Beach Bus history, joining Jordan Thomson, who pitched for TC during their inaugural season of 2006.

The Traverse City Beach Bums are the 2015 Frontier League Champions and will be playing their 11th season of professional baseball in Northern Michigan starting May 2016. All home games are played at Wuerfel Park, a state of the art ballpark located in Blair Township, Mich. The Beach Bums business offices are open from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. Sponsorships, Season Tickets, Group packages, patio tables and suites are all available for the 2016 season.

For more information, please call the offices at 1-231-943-0100 or come on out to the ballpark for an off-season visit.
