TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(18-26) got the tying run to the plate in the ninth but fell to the Windy City Thunderbolts(25-20), by a final score of 6-4. 

Windy City’s offense came out strong in the first inning with a two-run double by Kyle Wood and an RBI single by Larry Balkwill, giving the Thunderbolts a 3-0 lead. Wood hit another double in the second, driving in another run, then, in the third, Corey Bass hit an RBI single, giving Windy City a five run cushion. 

In the bottom of the third, Jeff DeBlieux singled to left and Steven Patterson hit a base hit up the middle, moving DeBlieux to third. Will Kengor hit a fly ball down the left field line that was dropped and DeBlieux scored the first Bums run of the evening. After a scoreless fourth, Arby Fields legged out an infield hit with one out in the fifth. When DeBlieux followed with a double, Field made it to third. Patterson stepped up and hit a deep fly to center, scoring Fields on the sacrifice fly, making it 5-2. 

Keenyn Walker got a run back for Windy City by driving in a run on a fielder’s choice in the sixth. In the bottom of the ninth, Kendall Patrick led off with a single to right then John Montgomery drove him in with a double to deep center field. Two batters later, Zach Files singled and moved Montgomery to third. After a pitcher change, Arby Fields grounded to the right side of the infield, scoring Montgomery, and pulled Traverse City within two. 

Clay Chapman nearly went the distance for Windy City, going into the ninth, allowing three earned runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out 6. With tonight’s win, he improved to 2-4. Reinaldo Lopez gutted his way through five and a third, allowing six runs on 13 hits, falling to 1-5 with the loss. Brian Loconsole got the final two outs in the ninth for his 17th save of the season.                                                                                                                                                                     

On Tuesday night, the Beach Bums continue this six game home stand with game one of a three game set against the Florence Freedom. Augie Gallardo takes the ball for the Beach Bums and Jordan Kraus will start for Florence. First pitch is at 7:05pm and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, goes on the air at 6:45pm with the Budweiser pre-game show, on 101.9- The Bay.

Our pre-game ceremony recognizes the valiant men and women of our community who are serving and have served all of us. The players and coaches will be wearing special red,white, and blue jerseys that will auctioned off after the game.
