AVON, OH – The Traverse City Beach Bums (17-21) trailed the Lake Erie Crushers (16-23) by three but chipped away for a 6-3 win to win the finale of this weekend’s series.

Lake Erie scored all three of their runs in the third inning, starting with an RBI grounds-rule double by Cody Lenahan. Austin O’Brien followed with a line shot off the pitcher. He was thrown out at first, but was able to drive in a run. Connor Oliver rounded out the inning with a run-scoring single, and the Crushers led 3-0.

Will Kengor led off the fifth inning with a double that hopped over the right field wall. Three batters later, Nick Murphy drove him in with an RBI single. With one out in the eighth, John Montgomery continued his hot power hitting with his third solo home run of the season, pulling the Bums within one. Murphy continued the inning with a single then Jeff DeBlieux and Arby Fields walked to load the bases. Newcomer Josh Hauser then walked to tie the game and Steven Patterson also walked for the lead.  Kengor extended the Traverse City lead with a two-run single.

Joe Mello and Devin Over combined to pitch five scoreless innings in relief to keep the Beach Bums in the game. Over picked up the win to improve to 2-0. Seth Lucio didn’t allow a hit but walked four in dropping to 1-1 in today’s loss. Enrique Oquendo gave up a lead-off single in the ninth but the game ended on a double-play to earn him his first save of the season.
