BEACH BUMS BLITZ MINERS
CITY, MI – The
Traverse City Beach Bums(7-6) put up six runs in the second and didn’t look back
in a 16-0 drubbing of the Southern Illinois Miners(4-9), on Friday
After a scoreless first, Will Kengor and Alexis Rivera led off the second with singles to center. Kendall Patrick then drove in the first run with an RBI double. Elijah Trail, Giancarlo Brugnoni, Nick Murphy, and Jeff DeBlieux each hit RBI singles, one after the other, to continue the offensive onslaught. Steven Patterson then hit his own RBI single to extend the lead to six.
In the third, with one away, Patrick walked and Trail hit a two-run bomb over the right field wall. The runs continued in the fourth inning, with another two put on the board. DeBlieux led off with a walk then moved to third on a Ryan Garvey single to center. DeBlieux scored on a wild pitch, moving Garvey to third. Kengor came up and drove in Garvey with an RBI single, bringing the lead to double digits.
The eighth inning was another huge frame for Traverse City, started
with a Garvey one-out single. Steven Patterson then followed with a two-run
blast, his fifth homer of the season. With two outs, Alexis Rivera and Kendall
Patrick singled, then, Trail hit his second home run of the game, third of the
season, a three-run shot, to complete the rout.
Kramer Champlin got all of the run support he needed tonight,
picking up the win to improve to 2-1. He went six innings, allowing three hits
and a walk, while striking out four. Payton Lobdell gave up eight runs on nine
hits, in three innings. He falls to 1-2.
Beach Bums and Miners are back at it tomorrow for game two of this weekend’s
three-game set. Ethan Gibbons will take the hill for Southern Illinois and Nate
Abel starts for the Beach Bums. First pitch at Wuerfel Park is at 7:05pm and Tom
Willms will have the call starting at 6:45pm with the Budweiser Pre-Game Show,
on 101.9- The Bay.
