BEACH BUMS BLANK BOOMERS
TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums (39-50) only needed a single run to upend the Schaumburg Boomers (38-53) by a final score of 1-0.
The only offense in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jeff DeBlieux led off the frame with a double to right-center field. Two batters later, with Jose Vargas at the plate, DeBlieux stole third. With the lead run ninety feet away, Jose Vargas rammed a line shot that one-hopped the left field wall. DeBlieux scored easily but Vargas was thrown out trying to stretch the RBI single to a double.
The Beach Bums’ Augie Gallardo and Schaumburg’s Gunnar Kines, each pitched a gem of a game. Gallardo, who went seven innings, allowing just three hits and two walks, while striking out three, gets the win. He improves to 2-0. Kines only gave up the lone run of the game on five hits and struck out seven. He gets the complete-game loss, falling to 4-6. After Jacob Lanning allowed a hit in the eighth, Luke Barker hurling a perfect ninth with a strikeout for his sixth save of the season.
Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and Schaumburg Boomers will lock up in game two of this three game series. Brett Marby will start for Schaumburg against the Beach Bums’ Tucker Simpson. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the call starting at 6:45pm with the Miller Lite pre-game show on 101.9-FM The Bay.

The Beach Bums Box Office & Gift Shop are now open with non-gameday hours of 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm on Saturday. Wuerfel Park is closed on non-gameday Sundays. Stadium hours are extended on gamedays.
