BEACH BUMS BLANK BOOMERS

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums (39-50) only needed a single run to upend the Schaumburg Boomers (38-53) by a final score of 1-0.

The only offense in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jeff DeBlieux led off the frame with a double to right-center field. Two batters later, with Jose Vargas at the plate, DeBlieux stole third. With the lead run ninety feet away, Jose Vargas rammed a line shot that one-hopped the left field wall. DeBlieux scored easily but Vargas was thrown out trying to stretch the RBI single to a double.

The Beach Bums’ Augie Gallardo and Schaumburg’s Gunnar Kines, each pitched a gem of a game. Gallardo, who went seven innings, allowing just three hits and two walks, while striking out three, gets the win. He improves to 2-0. Kines only gave up the lone run of the game on five hits and struck out seven. He gets the complete-game loss, falling to 4-6. After Jacob Lanning allowed a hit in the eighth, Luke Barker hurling a perfect ninth with a strikeout for his sixth save of the season.
