TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(31-41) sent ten men to the plate in the eighth, scoring six runs, to put the Windy City ThunderBolts (34-39) away in tonight's series opener. The final score was 10-1.

After a scoreless first, Steven Patterson, with one out, hit a single to right but it got away from Cody Keefer for an error and Patterson ended up on third. With Giancarlo Brugnoni at the plate, Patterson came into score on a passed ball that reached the back stop, giving the Bums the lead. Although Windy City had a man on base in each of the first five innings, they could not get on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the fifth, Marco Derkes reached on a fielders’ choice and Ryan Bottger walked.  Jose Vargas then stepped up and hit a blast over the Wuerfel Park scoreboard in left for a three run homer. It was Vargas’ eleventh long-ball of the season and made it a 4-0 game.

Windy City got on the board in the top of the eighth when Taylor Smart tripled, then scored on a Coco Johnson RBI sacrifice fly. The Beach Bums responded by putting up a huge turn at bat in the bottom of the frame. Patterson led off with a double to left and two batters later Kendall Patrick drove him home with an RBI single. Jeff DeBlieux and Marco Derkes each followed with walks, then Ryan Bottger squeezed a two run single to left. Will Kengor drove in Bottger with an RBI double then came in to score himself when Christian Santisteban hit a two run single to round out the inning.
