As the Beach Bums look to add depth to their team, Rowland, 22, is a great addition to the roster heading into spring. Rowland, whose father spent time in the majors with the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox organizations, chose to connect with the Diamondbacks organization as a non-drafted free agent when his younger brother Robby was selected in the 3rd round of the 2010 draft. Rowland played for the Missoula Osprey, the Diamondbacks rookie affiliate in 2010 where he finished the season hitting .291 with 11 doubles and five homeruns. Rowland drove in 34 runs as well as earning Pioneer League Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending July 4 while he compiled a 13 game hitting streak.

Rowland is ready to get behind the plate and help the Beach Bums continue their success from 2010. "I'm excited to get out there and help them win a championship,” said Rowland “I want to be as productive as possible and enjoy myself in Traverse City. I've heard nothing but great things about the organization, and I'm truly looking forward to playing for Gregg Langbehn."

Rowland finished his collegiate career at Campbellsville University where he started every game. He led the team with a .376 average and 16 doubles and 11 homeruns while driving in a team best 61 runs. Rowland put together a six game hit streak three different times during his senior season. Gaining experience at Santa Rosa Junior College, Rowland spent his first two years with the Bear Cubs where he hit .296 with 19 RBIs as a freshman.

"Rowland is a big, left-handed hitting catcher with power. He will give us another solid bat in the middle of the lineup that the other team has to account for at all times,” said Jason Wuerfel, Director of Baseball Operations, “He is a talented defensive catcher, too, and we expect him to handle the majority of the workload behind the plate."
