2016 HOME SEASON END WITH FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT
TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums’(40-51) offense couldn’t get started against the Schaumburg Boomers(39-54), as they fell in final home game on Thursday night, by a final score of 4-1.
After a scoreless first inning, Schaumburg got a one out solo home
run from Mike McClellan, his second of the season, to give the Boomers a 1-0
lead. In the fifth, Jordan Dean hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Nick
Oberg, who doubled to start the inning. After Dean stole second and reached
third on an error, Mark Nelson drove him home with an RBI to give Schaumburg a
three run lead.
In the seventh, Dean knocked in a run by reaching a fielder’s choice to score Kenny Towns. The Beach Bums responded in the bottom of the inning when, with one out, Steven Patterson singled to center. He then moved to third on a Christian Santisteban double. Gaby Juarbe extended his hitting streak to nine games with an RBI single to right to score Patterson. Unfortunately for Traverse City, they would not get another base runner in the game.
Seth Webster earned the win for Schaumburg to improve his record to 8-9. He went seven innings, allowed just one run on five hits, a walk, and he struck out nine. Michael Shreves suffered the loss, hurling seven innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits, four walks, and struck out four. He falls to 3-10. Dexter Price gets the save, his 14th, after pitching a perfect ninth with a strikeout. In spite of the loss, the Beach Bums take the three game series but Schaumburg wins the season series, seven games to five.
