2017 Game Day Staff

GAMEDAY POSITIONS (part-time seasonal)

CONCESSIONS-- Break into the work-a-day world and learn the ropes in concessions. Applicants must be 16 years of age and over.    Please apply in person. 

**Sand Bar & Bottle Shop -- The Beach Bums newest amenity serving local wines, with meat & cheese trays needs a gameday staffer knowledgeable in wine who enjoys talking to people.  

**Starcut Cider Shack -- Part of of Short's Biergarten, the Cider Shack needs a bartender.

**Speed Pitch -- Carnival type baseball game requires an outgoing individual that loves people and baseball. Must be willing to talk to fans and encourage them to try their luck.

Hours: Game day hours for most positions: half an hour before the start of the game until game ends sometimes as late as or later than 11 pm. The Beach Bums 2017 home game schedule is for 48 home games plus special events, running from mid-May through Labor Day Weekend plus post season action if the Bums make the playoffs.

Grounds Crew

The Traverse City Beach Bums are looking for a Jack of all trades: a combination Maintenance & Grounds crew individual. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the complete care, maintenance and repair of stadium and grounds at Wuerfel Park. Employee reports directly to the John Wuerfel, COO.

In order to be considered for this position you must have a working knowledge of: carpentry, electrical, use of power equipment (mowers, blowers) and cleaning skills.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a hands on, get them dirty working position, it is not a desk job or a supervisor position.


Skills Required:   • Must be goal oriented, self-starter    Must be on time -- no excuses    • Enthusiastic, energetic, people person capable of working solo as well as overseeing a crew     • Strong interpersonal skills a must     • Superior organizational habits and ability to manage multiple projects    • Strong attention to detail    • Licensed driver with a clean driving record 

Skills Helpful:   Working knowledge of the sport of baseball a definite plus

Event Duties:  Must be available to assist on game nights and other stadium events.

Background: Employee must have strong management skills, be well organized, and be able to contribute to a team environment. Employee must be able to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and achieve objectives.

Physical Requirements:  Extended hours of work between the months of April through September.  Position will include overtime during the baseball season. Employee must have the ability to handle stress in a fast paced environment and a multi-faceted job position.

Position includes: mowing, weed-whacking, using leaf blower, raking, run sprinklers, fix & repair doors, windows, equipment.  Maintain equipment -- change oil, grease, wash.  Set-up batting practice, fix batting nets, set up speed pitch.  Scoreboard, message board and video board maintenance.  Change lights (bulbs & timers).  Stock shelves throughout Wuerfel Park.  Dump garbage.  Scrub, clean, wash stands & seats.  Vacuum floors.  Pull weeds, trim bushes, spray Round-up and any and all other jobs as directed by management.

Compensation: $12.00/hour and up depending on ability and experience, staff 16-18 start at $10.00/hour and up.  All references will be checked.  Background check will be required.

2017 Stadium Cleaning Crew

Individuals on the stadium cleaning crew work to keep the ballpark clean by picking up trash and cleaning up spills throughout the ballpark, washing down and scrubbing the concourse as needed, washing down the stands and table decks, as well as changing out garbage bags periodically. Supervisor may assign other duties at any time.

This is a part-time seasonal position. The season runs from May through mid-September, and the employee is expected to work a majority of the baseball games (48 home games in 2017) and any other events held at the facility over the course of the season.

Physical Demands: Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time while carrying up to 50 pounds and ability to work in outdoor elements.

Compensation: $11.00/hour start & up.  (Must be at least 16 year old, underage hourly rate $9.00)

Seasonal Housekeepers

The Traverse City Beach Bums are accepting applications for the 2017 SEASONAL (May through September) housekeeping staff (3 positions open) for pre-season stadium cleanup and during the baseball season cleaning of suites and stadium. This is a great summer job, work early in the day and have the rest of the day off.  

Housekeeping staff will be expected to work a part-time schedule (@4 hours/day up to 6 days per week) with work hours and days that vary each week (please see the Beach Bums home game schedule). Individuals must be motivated self-starters both able to work with others as well as solo.

DUTIES:
Work shall include, but not limited to cleaning suites, restroom facilities and concession areas in stadium and clubhouse offices, restrooms and public areas, housekeepers will be responsible for replenishing all supplies and doing laundry as needed.

Physical Demands:
Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time while carrying up to 50 pounds and ability to work in outdoor elements.

Compensation: $12.00/hour start (Team Leader will be paid more).  Underage staff must be a minimum 16 years old $9.00/hour

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be a quick learner.
• POSITIVE attitude is essential.
• Previous housekeeping experience a plus but not necessary.

2017 Intern Openings

The Traverse City Beach Bums are looking for a number of dynamic, high-energy personalities for intern positions for the 2017 season. 

Position Currently Open: Administrative/Accounting (1), the balance of the internship positions have been filed, thank you!

The intention of the Traverse City Beach Bums internship program is to provide an extensive hands-on approach to career development that assists young adults with the selection of appropriate careers. The Beach Bums offer work positions that are meaningful and compatible with interns’ education along with their desired career. We also offer guidance into the job search process, assisting in resume writing, utilizing our network of peers in the industry to assist qualified individuals in seeking out available positions at the completion of their internship.

Qualifications: Must be outgoing, tactful, courteous, and professional in an atmosphere of many demands and frequent interruptions.  Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal,  phone, and organizational skills.  Individual must utilize high-impact customer service skills to ensure customer loyalty.  Ability to perceive problems,  suggestions,  and trouble-shoot solutions proactively.  Manage game day staff, including scheduling, monitoring, and problem solving.

ALL INTERNS MUST

  • Strive to make the Traverse City Beach Bums a first-class professional sports organization
  • Work diligently to build and strengthen relationships with corporate partners, media, fans and the community
  • Work at all times to provide the ultimate entertainment experience to all patrons of the Traverse City Beach Bums

HOURS:  Interns must be available to participate full-time, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  On non-game days the day generally is 9:30 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday 9:30 am to 2 pm (plus possible evenings, weekends and holiday for player/driver/mascot appearances and other special circumstances.) 

On game days, the day generally begins at 9:30 am and ends after the game (sometimes as late as or later than 11 pm).  The Beach Bums 2017 home game schedule is for 48 home games, with home opener May 19th and final regular season game Sunday, September 3rd, 2017, plus special event promotions, as well as ticket sales & setup.
